The Piranhas Dragon Boat Club is a highly competitive mixed-gender
crew that competes in the increasingly competitive Eastern Canadian
Dragon Boat Racing circuit. The crew recently finished 7th overall
at the 2003 North American Club Crew Championships and has been
ranked as high as 7th in Eastern Canada.
Coached by Rob Chang, the Piranhas are a crew of carefully selected
athletes whose ages range from the early 20s to early 30s. Most
athletes on the team have competed at a high level in other sports
such as rowing, cycling, track and field (sprints and hurdles),
cross-country and long-distance, wrestling, football, powerlifting,
rugby, diving, figure skating and karate. The crew's unity is grounded
in the similiar personalties and interest of its members, all of
whom share a passion for paddling and personal improvement through
sport.
Success is pervasive in the team's culture, and this manifests
itself off the water as well. The crew's athletes are also successful
young professionals from a wide variety of industries, and upper-year
undergraduate/graduate students. Our athletes have included teachers,
medical students, engineers, personal trainers, investment analysts,
teachers, and consultants within the business services industry
and a physiotherapist.
The Piranhas are looking forward to the 2004 dragon boat season
and hope to build upon their past successes, in what promises to
be an exciting season.
